THINKING OF BUYING A USED SPORTSMAN 500 A 98,99 OR 00. WAS THERE MUCH OF A CHANGE BETWEEN MACHINES. IS THERE A YEAR THAT I SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM. WHAT YEAR DID THE EBS BECOME STANDARD? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT.

If i were you i would get a 2000 model. I have one and its great. Get the late model 2000 because they have better brakes and a better sealed tranny. Check on the left side of the gas tank at the top of the seat to see if there is holes there , if there is not its got the new improvements.The engine braking system come out in the late 1998 models. I would stay away from them because i hear that they had alot of problems and get a late 2000 or even get a 2001 h.o. hope this helps! Sorry 1998, 1999 year owners no bashing intended!!

basically the newer the better. buy as new a machine as u can afford,they get better each year.
