Default Airbox question

Was doing some routine maintenance on my 05 700 EFI the other day, and while inspecting the air filter, I noticed that there was some oil residue in the airbox. I would imagine it's some kind of blow-back from the crankcase breather, but I've never noticed it on any of my other machines. Other than that, the thing seems to be running great. Anyone know if this is normal, or should I be looking for a cause?

Thanks,
Steve

Its normal. Its part of the CCV that comes straight off the engine into the airbox. It appears the std Polaris oil it prone to vaporization. Switch to a better oil like AMSOIL and you should see less residue. You can also put a filter in the end of your CCV to catch the oil vapors.

NP. You can also eliminate the problem is you want to create a CCV loop through an external filter/collector. Many folks have done it on Diesels to keep oil out of the Intercoolers and Turbo charge tubes. I can't see a huge benifit on our bikes unless your getting a ton of oil in the bottom of your air box. I just wipe it out with a rag when I check the airfilter. BTW for the record I only have 40 miles on my bike and I check the air filter weekly. I still think if you change to a better oil and you'll see less of it. Good luck.
