Default not good at all

has anybody every had this happen before??? i have a scrambler 500 and it was running and the timing chain snapped in half. this cause the bottom timing chain gear to break in 2 and my intake valves to stay open and my piston hit my valves causing piston damage. has this happened to anybody, i never heard of this happening on a srambler 500 before. any respons on how you think this all happened would be great
