Pulling the trigger on a 4x4 Hawkeye
I took it out on the road today, it WILL do 46mph as per it's speedometer with me sitting up, if i ducked down i might get another couple mph out of it.
Have any of you noticed how difficult the gear shifter is to get in and out of gears, especially from H back to N or R?
The AWD operated very nicely, i got to put it through its paces today. Larger tires are a must, 24"s should do ok without taking away too much power.

With the difficulty in shifting into gear, I believe the idle is a little high on it. If you set it in neutral and rev it up a little you can hear the clutch go in and out. But as someone alreay said, it was not made to do donughts and burnouts. I will climb great and is really good for tight trail riding. I own it and a 500 Sportsman and for short rides I like the Hawk much better.

I posted this in the other thread,
But, my son at 5'9 about 120lbs can hit 50 on his, can ride up almost any hill I can on my 800 and swims through the bogs.
When I ride it, and I am at least twice his weight, I can hit about 35 going up a pretty good inclne and the low 40's isn't an issue. For an automatic 300 at close to 200 miles I am impressed.
I hope you get the bugs worked out of yours.

Talk about irritating, Have you tried shutting off the fuel valve, what rocket scientist decided to stick it way the hell up under there?
About shifting, it's not my idle, my idle is fine. I owned an 01 Trailboss for 5 years and know how a high idle can cause grinding problems when going into gear, this is simply VERY hard to shift, i have to really pull on it to get it into and out of gears. If you guys aren't having this problem i'll take it back in a few weeks and get them to look at it.

While riding it yesterday i noticed the shifting problem is coming and going, i have more problems getting it out of H than anything else, but sometimes it shifts nicely. Hopefully after i put some more miles on it, it'll loosen up and shift correctly.
I managed to break one of those cheesy plastic protectors for one of the front driveshafts, yesterday.
