cool. keep us posted on what your dealer finds out ok. you know he already lowered it to a smaller jet. now it may just need a carburetor adjustment. or maybe even another smaller main jet. but anyhow it be good to know please what the dealer says ok. thanks

I'd try raising the clip on the needle one notch and see if that's better. If it is go up 1 more. If it seems rich everywhere, try adjusting the float level slightly lower (bend the tab up).

I know nothing about the Hawkeye (too new ). If it's a 4-stroke It will have a fuel screw located under the carb towards the intake side of the engine. If it's a 2-stroke, it will have and air screw, located on the side of the carb closer to the air box.

Fuel screw: Turn IN to lean out

Air screw: Turn OUT to lean out

That will affect off-idle performance.

the thing about higher elevation is that there is less (thinner) air, hence making the carb suck in more gas then its jetted for. chances are if you or the dealer drop 2 or 3 main jet sizes it will fix the problem. i wouldnt touch the needle as that will only change when your getting more gas as not making it get less. just remeber if you do change jets and ride in colder weather you'll have to change back. just my 2 cents

If you drop the needle (raise the clip) it will lean out the mixture from about 1/4 throttle to 3/4 throttle. The main only affects 3/4 throttle to wide-open operation.

For riding BELOW 4000 ft , you'l have to change everything back: go back up on main & down on clip.

the piolet does up to 1/8 to 1/4 throttle and the main does from there up to full throttle.

well, we pick up the hawkeye tomorrow.they jetted it down even more and they ground off 5 grams on the clutch weights. hopefully this works..i can't help but feel like a guinea pig---sell the quads and figure it out later.. i'm going to try and convince my dealer to let me trade up to a 500 sportsman ha ha

took it out on sunday and it ran great. it only sputtered once when she hit real cold water fast but then it was fine.the clutch work seemed to help the shift out of the definite low range into high much smoother and quicker.now this is a great little trail bike for my wife that handles awesome on the tight and technical stuff.
