Heck if you've got a good cell phone with GPS garmin now has an app you can install that will do the same thing as a stand alone. A vendor for the co I work for that specializes in GPS and sells GPS chipsets to Cell phone CO and so on says that the Garmin products are top of the line. I have a garmin and compaired it to the Hertz neverlost and the Garmin maps are better. GPS is now all about the quality of you maps and the antenna.

I've had garmin for years now and have not had any problems. Exept one time I had one mounted on my Sea Doo watercraft and it filled with water. My fault I left the battery compartment loose. My warranty was up but gamin sent me a new one for free. Great service. Now that was over 10 years ago. I haven't had any problems since. I've had four Garmin GPS's. GPS45, GPSII, GPSIII, GPSIII+. I still have the GPS45 that I bought in 1992 and it works great. Maggelan use to be very hard to use. I was recently told by a dealer who sold most of the brands, that Maggelan is having software problems, he said it is probably a translation problem from french to english. I think he was kidding...

Magellan originated from a company that was founded in France in 1965.

The Maggelans are good units and easy to use, but from what I have read, their customer support is quite poor.
I just bought a new Garmin GPSMAP 60CS for $300 delivered. I chose this unit for the color screen (recomended) and the altimiter capability. Also, I will be getting a mount system, a 12 volt power cord, and the topo maps (Mapsourse).
Good Luck, and have fun with it.

I have had a Garmin street pilot III in my truck now for about 4 years. I know I shouldn't do this but I shut it off about once every couple months haha and I have never had a problem with it. I think Garmin is the only way to go. I am glad someone started a form on this because I was really wondering what GPS to get for my quad. Has anyone ever used that Garmin etrex realtree and where are you getting the Legendc for 200 bucks? I only find it for 299. How hard is the regular legend to see in the day light and in the dark? I also have been leaning twards the Lowrance I finder hunt, it looks to have twice and much memery that any legand. Anyone have one of them?thanks

The etrex real tree is the same as the original yellow etrex. I have one and it is okay but no mapping features. The non color legend is backlight so in my opinion it is actually easier to see at night than during the day. I find the non color hard to see when there is a lot of glare and since mine is mounted on the pod when I had teh non color it was hard to read while moving. The color makes it easier to just glance down quickly and look at something. Plus the C has a few more features and more memory if you are going to down load maps.

Ruttenit, the legend C has internel non-expandable memory 24MB, the legend CX has 32MB expandable memory and it's price is around $250 and think it is well worth it. And the City Navigator V7 CD is great also around $100. I really can't stress enough on getting the expandable memory cause as long as you can get transflash micro SD cards you will have a lot of memory right now I have 512MB for around $50 for a Sandisk Transflash Micro SD. In the near future I suspect you will be able to get 1G. The City Nav. V7 CD takes up a lot of storage as far as memory goes. The green screen vs. color is like night and day. The color screen is so much better. The green screen you can see it better at night with the backlighting on. During the day and if there is a glare it's not great at all. With the 512MB Card I can have very very detailed maps from miss. through tx. all the way up the United States. and still have about 200MB left over. It's wonderful to have that many states with that much detail at your disposal. There is also another new model out the Venture CX that is alittle cheaper than the Legend CX that looks cool too. Check this website out that's where I bought all my stuff from and there shipping is good and there prices seem to be pretty good also.
