hi, there is a 1996 polaris xplorer 400 for sale in the newspaper, is is red and has a plow on it, it has ONLY 198 miles on it, he only used it to plow the driveway for 10 years. what do you think it is worth, i would say no more than $2000, what do you think. this will be one of my three 4-wheelers, a raptor and a scrambler, so i do not want to spend a lot on it. i know the 2-strokes have problems, and 2 of my scramblers have blown to old age, not a problem, just a piston, but i don't have much $$$. how are they as trail 4-wheelers. if you have any info please right back.

i've spent some time with the explorers and they are awesome trail rides. I think you're about right w/ your $2000 figure. The 400 two stroke is still a really quick motor, and they were still a viable work machine. Also, if you ever get bored with it and have the cash lying around you could hook up with rick ritter and make an 800 eating explorer. that was always something i wanted to do

I have had a 95 & 98 Xplorer and they were great wheelers. I had 3800 and 4200 miles on them. I just sold my 98 for $2200 but it was used but still ran great. My recommendation is use Amsoil Synthetic injector oil. A lot less foul plugs. If that is all the miles it has on it I think it is a good price.

THat is a fair price .Go for it but plan on a topend as soon as you can to save problems down the road.

This is a great buy for 2000.00. I owned this model for three years until the new Sportsman 500 4 stroke appeared, so I traded. I was disappointed in the new 500 because my older 400 2 stroke had much more power. Buy it! Dont wait till someone else does!!
