Uh if you poked a hole in it then it's going to leak fluid so yes you'll need a new cover..they are made out of white metal so it can't be welded.

gee dude sounds like a job for JB Weld. is the tranny leaking huh? if so drain tranny of all oil. the crack must be completely clean. no oil at all. go to your local hardware store or auto parts store and buy JB Weld. JB Weld will seal that crack permanently. forever!

Default PLEASE HELP!!!!

uh... are we sure he's talking about the gearcase? he might mean the plastic transmission cover (which seems more likely to me because he mentioned putting a hole in the cover. Question: how big of a hole, and does your friend ride a lot of water? if the hole's small or your friend doesn't ride much water, it'll be fine. otherwise( i know this sounds kinda chinsy,) but a free fix could be as simple as some duct tape on the inside and outside of the cover to seal it from water. Otherwise, it should be replaced... sorry i can't help w/ a price tho...

If ScramblerXLE is right and it is the plastic cover. Then do as the other's said take it off clean all oil dirt and grime off of it. Then go to any auto part's store and buy A tube of Amazing GOOP. seal it from the inside. Woulden't hurt to put it on the outside either. Let it set for A day and your problem is gone. Great stuff I've used it on many thing's, You'll break it somewere else before it break's there again.
