Hi well my scrammy 500 is 01, it idles low and when you try to pull away it splutters and dies also when you are running and you take your hand off the throttle its backfiring, any ideas please

 

sounds like a restricted pilot jet

 

so whats the best way to clean it please

 

pull the carb. off and take the jets out and clean w/ carb cleaner and compressed air if you can. wouldnt hurt to spray cleaner thru all the passages and then compressed air again after a min or two. make sure your filers,air and fuel are not all plugged up. the only way for dirt to get in. usually when it back fires is because its running too lean, hence fuel restricktion.

 

check the ETC, your throttle control you can adjust it. If it gets to much slack in it this will happen, adjust it so there is very little slack in the cable, the adjustment should be 3 or 4 inches from throttle control.

 

solved, thanks guys it was just the idle needed to be turned up a bit, should have said earlier but only had a look and sorted it last week

 

glad you got it solved. hope its not still back firing though.that could be a sign of running lean.
