Extra lights for Scrambler...
#1
I want to install an extra set of small lights on the front of my Scram. Something similar to what Scramblerdrew did with his but smaller. I was thinking of "fog light" size.
Is there a certain way to hook these up and is there a wattage limit? Can I just purchase a set of car foglights and wire em' up?
Thanks
Brian

I know you can on the pre '98 models because we have an easily accessable electric panel. I've heard the newer ones are harder to get to and add accessory wires to.
I have thought about mounting a car fog lamp under the rear of mine (under the seat on the frame) for a back up light. It would be easy to route the hot wire to the same clip as my reverse indicator light on the electric panel. I hate backing up in the woods in the pitch black of night and not being able to see a thing behind me further out than a few feet. Especially when the trail runs out on the edge of a ravine with nothing but trees on the other side of the trail. Just haven't gotten around to it.
I don't think the voltage draw from two more lights the size of a fog lamp would be too much for the alternator to handle. Not when you figure that some of the utility quads like the Explorer 400 have winches on them anyway.

i have a 99 sport and i added the light setup from a scrambler to it, so now i run 3 lights at once and have no problems with the power output, i just spliced into the power lead for the stock light. that back up light idea sounds good, think i will try it.

The only way to run extra lights on your scram for "extended" night time riding would be to make sure that they have 35watt bulbs. I am assuming you want to operate them together with your factory light. The scram's charging system is rated @ 150w. 35w +35w + 55/60w = 125/130w plus tail light plus AWD. As you see you would be fairly marginal. If you are looking for more light, I would suggest you install a 55/100 or 80/100 super white halogen bulb in your stock light this will leave some room for additional accessories and not tax the charging system to much. I use the 55/100 in my Xplorer's pod light and the light output is amazing.
PS When we meet on the trails this winter and we go for a 8hr night ride you will be glad you took my advice. You see, as your battery starts to drain you lose your 4-wd and then you would be no better off than a SHEE and I'll whip your a$$. If you have not already done so you will be adding grip/thumb warmers also.

Xplor I installed a set of extreme fog lights on my scrambler right on the radiator guard. The only thing I had to do was make extenders come out each side of the guard. Two pieces of sheet metal make good extenders.

Hey pro44us, do you have the hi/lo beam switch, or do you just run one setting with the extra two lights? I want to hook some up to my TBlazer. Thanks

Xplor,
The 500 Scrambler is blessed with the 260 watt stator out of the Sportsman, so I was able to run the big hellas with 55 watt bulbs no problem. Your 400 only has 150 watt stator so you need to watch you bulbs, I know that the Hellas looked big, but reflector size and lens clarity are more important than bulb wattage. If you run a higher quality light like a Piaa with a good sized reflector you can run 35 watt H 3s with good results. If you run cheap lights you wont be happy. Just my 2 cents.
P.S. Those lights on my 500 were awesome no comparison!

Xplor give me about a week my scanner sh*t the bed at home so I gotta use the one at work.
The setup looks really sharp and gives out a lot of light without draining your wallet, All together I paid about $40 bucks.
