Piston question?
#2
Your picture isn't the clearest but does it look like someone sand blast the top of it? If so it's a sign of detonation which can be cause by, toomuch compression, not enough octane, old gas, too tight of a pipe, too much timing. A better pictue would be a big help.

Obviously, the company must think seeing a piston is somehow going to corrupt me.

Sorry about the pic. My digital camera is broken so i had to take it with my phone. It is more of a burnt crusty buildup look. (the best as i can describe it.) I ended up taking the piston out and it looks as though the rings werent seated properly. Both rings were sitting on top of the ***** that the ring gap is supposed to go between. The piston was also slightly burnt on one of the sides from the rings up. Could this have caused it? It is bored at 60 over and now going to 80. Does this require a higher octane gas, rejetting? Theres a picture of the piston in my pics.

WOW! i'd have to see it to give you a complete answer you might have to go up 1 size on the main if you didn't already. We can bore it and get you a new piston and let you know exacctly what happened if you would like.

Speedwerx - Thanks but i have already ordered a new wiseco piston and rings. Should be here any day. Just waiting so i can take it and the cylinder to the local machine shop. I'll try going up one size on the main too.
My buddy and i put the last piston and rings in - probobly why it is jacked up. Is there any way to make sure the rings are seated properly when sliding the piston into the cylinder? Is a ring compressor necessary. Not sure what we did last time - but apparetly it didnt work(lasted a year though). Could of also been that i didnt have the piston when i had it bored out - but i remember checking the clearance and it was .003.

Have the machien shop set the clearance @ .005-.0055. Other than that the rings can only go one way and if there wrong the cyl. will not go over the piston.
