Hawkeye high altitude tuning
#1
I bought a Hawkeye in December and the dealer had not gotten a chance to go out and figure out the clutching and jetting required for hign altitude. I will be taking it in on Moday and would like to hear what jets and weights others have had success with for above 6000 ft.
This dealer is really good and have treated me very well, in fact one of the main reasons why I keep buying here is because they always get the tuning right, but it would be nice to give them some input if they have not been at altitude yet becuase of the snow.
Any input would be great.

Well here on Vancouver Island, canada i bought a 06 hawkeye and from day one had problems with thr performance of the machine. The dealer was great, even putting a new carb in under warranty but the problem still existed. Finally i started playing around with it and started checking out the carb settings. It came stock with a 147. MAIN jet which through trials and trials i am down to a 140. MAIN with the stock 42.5 (i think) pilot. It runs great lots of power and no more running like the choke is on. I have not played around with the clutch yet but soon i will get into that. Here we ride between 0 feet sea level and 4000'. There is lots of information on here if you search. I also had to set the carb float level lower that book spec. i am currently at about 3mm lower than the book setting.

Thanks guys, I have actually been reading the hawkeye threads but it never seemed to show a solution. Your input will help to give my dealer a place to start.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

I think the dealer may have figured out the tuning for high altitude! I ride between 5000-10000 ft and the Hawk has been running like crap. I took it to the dealer and they used my machine to do thier testing and they claim that they got it dialed in great. The highest they can get right now because of the snow is 9000.
They used 135 main jet, moved the needle 1 notch ( I am not sure which direction) and changed the clutch weights to a roller set, the exact description off of work order is "Roller set-12 grams red".
I am going to try to get out and ride it this weekend to check for myself.
Hopefully this will help others that are having hight altittude problems.

I picked up mine in Feb and have the same problems. I live at 7000 feet and ride up to about 9500. I can't get anyone to believe me. I will info here to see if I can get anywhere. Let us know how the roller weight changes worked too.

So far just riding around the house and in a field near here it sure seems to be running better. It has a lot more pep and it starts way better than it used to. I will be riding a lot over memorial day and I will report in on how the machine runs.

How did your ride go? Did they fix the problem? I have had my Hawkeye in (5) times and it is still not running. If it is fixed could you give me the Dealers Phone # so I can have my dealer contact them? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Over Memorial we rode a ton at about 7000' and the Hawkeye ran great. I have not had a chance to ride any higher yet but the dealer's tech says that they rode as high as 9000' and it ran great.
My dealer is Tri City Performance in Centerville UT, his number is 801-298-8081. Hopefully they can help.
They tried 3 differrent jets before they got down to 135 main jet.
