Had valves adjusted on SP500, but can still hear valves chattering Help!
SubscribeMy friends dad adjusted the valves on my 500. When I got it back I noticed there there was less noise, but I can still here some valve chatter. He is very mechanically inclined, but he did mention that he did not tear it down and go in through the top, but rather he took the front rack off and moved some things in order to get to the head. He said the intake valves were fine, but the exhaust valves needed adjusted. I didn't get to say anything to him about it, because I had to go back to college. Since he didn't tear it down to get to the head, would this possibly make the feeler gauges give an incorrect reading? I can tell he did something, as it has more low end power, but for some reason it does not pull on the top end like it used to. I think the loss of top end may be because I need a new belt. On my 335 it did the same thing. There was very little wear on the belt, but it got stretched out, so when I had the belt replaced I got my top end back. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
i had 1100 miles on mine and never had to adjust the valves. if he used the feeler gauge right then it should be some what right. they must must be way out if you can still here the valves making noice.

That's just the nature of the 500 Fuji engine, it's going to tick even if the valves are in adjustment. If the guy knows his stuff don't worry about it try a new belt to get your top end back.......
Stendori and NBsportsman, I appreciate your guys response. I didn't know that was the nature of the beast, but it is good to know. He definitely knows his stuff. Basically when it comes to anything mechanical he can work on it. Thanks for your help.
