Default 500 HO/EFI Gas Mileage

I have an 06 SP500 EFI and last Saturday I put on 118 miles. My fuel gauge started flashing at 85 miles. I filled at 90 because my buddy riding an 05 SP 800 EFI ran out at 90. I am more than pleased with that especially since the gas tanks for the EFI's aren now 4.1 gallons.

Yeah, the small tank is kinda lame .. has anyone determined if you can put an X2 tank on the sportsman 500efi? Basically the same machine only with the x2 being about 10" longer ...

Last night I topped off my tank before going riding and the bike took 3.1litres after riding 22miles ... which tallys to a little over 32mpg (imperial) or around 27mpg (US)

A far cry from what my Warrior was getting (50+), but then .. two completely different machines ...

No doubt your mileage will suffer riding through bogs and tricky terrain .. regardless of that .. for the riding that I primarily do, to-date I'm averaging around 30mpg (imperial) or 25mpg (US).

So all things equal .. my current average mileage is 9.5litres/100km .. the tank is 15.6litres, which gives an average range of 164km, or just over 100miles to a tank. That's an average. I'm sure if I take it more easy I can do a **bit** better than that, and if I push it hard I'm sure I can do a lot worse than that. But on the average .. that's where it is.

NL, I have studied the X2 tank conversion. I don't think it will work. I know it won't on the 800. The entire drivetrain is set further back in the frame on the the X2. The battery is mounted up front under the tank and sits pretty low. Just a few inches under the tank. I haven't looked at a 500 to know how it is set up for sure, but the X2 tank is a monster. I can't think of who it is right now, but someone on here has either a 450 or 500 and an X2. Maybe they can help with this one.

Thanks Lawdog .. I hadn't really looked at the X2 setup closely .. given what you say in the difference of where the drivetrain sits, I doubt the tank would fit the 500efi ...

Still .. 100 miles to a tank is plenty of range for my riding style.how is your wife liking the x2 so far? Mine picked the 500LE because it was pretty.

Mine's loving the X2. She has been hauling her flowers and other yard wares around in it. I have been using it to clear some downed trees. I am looking for a good heavy lawn roller to add to its list of chores. Your wife did choose well, she has a sharp looking ride there. Our dealer had one just like it, it is very sweet. The last time that I was in there they were mounting bumpers and a winch on it. Very nice. The way we've been using the X2 I don't think that it will do us much good to really track the mileage. It sits and idles, then drags a log a hundred yards, then idles again. I do take it out and run it a little at a time to stretch its legs though.

Out of the two X2's that we have, we're noticing right around 50 miles per tank, we do mostly slow riding thru the creek and woods, but do open them up at least once or twice each time we go out, i've filled my tank twice, and on mine currently at ~140 miles it's almost time to fill up again, I was going to fill it up the other day, but decided to wait just to see how long it will last. Last time I filled it was dead on at 100 miles and I was literally on fumes.
