Default just bought 06 500 h.o

Hi guys!

My wife and I just bought our first Polaris, it's a 500 h.o. I only have 3 hours on it but the power is fantastic but still going through the break in blues as per the manual. We had an agonizing few months with a suzuki quadmaster 500 so we traded it in on this one. Awesome ride and great power so far. I have the 26" mudlite XL's on it with a K&N air filter. I realize it's too late but are there any quirks or problems with these that may creep up? I do have a 2 year warranty. What should be my top speed after the break in period? I'm really impressed with it's power, I can't seem to say enough about it. I really take care of my toys so I don't foresee any troubles caused by me.

Thanks for the help,

ppc686, most of the complaints on the EFI 500 have dried up. Like stendori said, do a little searching. My dealer told me that he has sold several this year and the only ones he had to complete the "recalls" for were out of the first batch that he recieved. He said that they have been inspecting them pretty thoroughly when they get them in and all of the following deliveries were okay. What is the build date on yours?

You're telling me. I was just trying to slime the tires on my 800 the other night and lost a valve core, left the slime in the valve stems too long and it gummed up. I didn't spray it off before riding it to spread the stuff. And my final trick for the night was leaving the key on after putting it away and running the battery down. Now that I think of it, I need to start a post about the level of charge in the battery. Duhhhh!

ppc, just wanted to add that we have not had any problems at all out of Momma's X2. The EFI 500 has taken everything I've thrown at it.

Do you guys all follow the break in procedure polaris has put out to the "T"? I have 3 hours on it and my buddies at work tell me I can open it up for about 30 seconds here and there. I'm paranoid of damaging something so I haven't been above 40 mph. In your opinions, do these bikes run better on premium gas or am I wasting my money.

One weird thing I forgot to mention was when I put the new mudlite XL's from my quadmaster onto this bike the dealer told me he had to put washers on the tire studs to keep the tires from rubbing on the tie rods in the front. Has this happened to anyone? The tire size is 26x9x12 in front and 26x10x12 in the rear.

Thanks again,

Look here:

This is the way I've been doing it for years. Well, I just read this guy's site when I first started coming here but we have always broken in our engines like we stole them. Hope this helps.

I checked my build date today and it's August 28/05. I have 6 hours on it so far and I opened it up yesterday and managed a 58 mph. I found a few deep mud holes to try out the AWD and it worked flawlessly. The first tank of gas dissapeared pretty quick but I figured it would. No complaints!
