Default HELP! 500 EFI won't fit in p.u. bed.............

I just purchased a 2006 500 EFI. I also own a Dodge SWB and the Polaris won't fit in the p.u. bed w/o leaving the tailgate down which isn't an option as we pull a TT also. I can't spend 100's of dollars for something to set on the bedrails. I thought about putting a set of ramps (that you use for changing the oil in a car) in the bed and driving the ATV up on the ramps thereby shortening the ATV. Anybody ever do this? Anybody ever build anything elase to set in the bed? I'd really like to be able to keep the tailgate closed. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!!

Default HELP! 500 EFI won't fit in p.u. bed.............

I have a 97 Ram with a 8 ft bed and mine fits with room to spare... The only thing I would worry about with getting the ramps and driving it up on the ramps. That if you dont secure it down if you dynamite the brakes that polaris is going to be a rocket into the back window of your rig.. I secure mine by backing it up to the back of the tailgate, thorwing a tie down over the gate and secureing that to my hitch and securing the atv to the atv hitch.

If you pull a travel trailor also why dont you leave the tailgate off totally, and just use tie downs and secure it right to the front of the box from the side frame rail pockets? If it interferes with the trailor turning. That is if the atv will fit.

Isnt it law that we have to leave the tailgates down and have to have a dead deer strapped to the racks when hauling a atv in Idaho and Washington? Heh heh

Good luck.

how big a trailer? they sell a hitch extender at the trailer place or online. it reduces the tongue weight rating but it may be a option you can check.

Default HELP! 500 EFI won't fit in p.u. bed.............

Larv, I have an 01 GMC Ext cab Short box and an 05 Sp 500 and I back it into the box and the tailgate closes. That way I don't have to worry about the bumper hitting my back window. But I am not sure if the box sizes are the same or not. Hope that helps.

I have a short bed 04 dodge quad cab and a 04 SP600 w a winch. I used to ( before getting a trailer) back the atv in and put 2x4s under the front wheels to keep the winch from rubbing on the tailgate and damaging the gate. But then the rear fenders rubbed the rear window and left wore lines in the glass.
then I just removed the tail gate and used a strap going down to the frame, and used a cable look to the bed pockest to prevent thief.

I have a 99 Chevy with a shortbed and I pull my X2 in with a winch on front but I have 2x4's in front of the wheels and my tires do not touch the tailgate but I can't close it either. I would suggest taking off your tailgate and strapping it in or if it hangs over the bed a little above the bumper, get some 2x6's and build up the bumper until the tires rest on them if it makes sense. Hope this helps you.
