Default Sportsman 500 Fuel Gauge

I find that the gauge works well on my 05 SP 500HO...no complaints.

Both of our 500 EFI's are the same way. I aksed the dealer about it when I took them in for thier first service and was told that its the shape, and design of the tank and float in them. Polaris is aware of the problem and I was told that they are working on a fix for it. But then again I was told that about the melting plastic issue too after the second meltdown.

Now see.....

For one dealer to be saying things like this is a little comfort, but where is the party line on it. Is there a site where this sort of "we are working on it" information can be tracked. For example, my dealer may not know about this snippit of info and thus I would never hear about it and alternativly, they would never call the buyers and tell them to come in for a recall or repair.....well I am pretty sure they would not anyway.

Is there a recall database for the ATV like there is with automakers?

Is there an official Polaris support tracker site?

Can we collectivly start a thread that reports all of the news from the dealers that anyone of us have been told about. Just so we all have a reference point to check and hound our dealers about. Sort of like create a semi-official recall / tracking thread?

Perhaps thats a better one for the moderator to start off.

Comments?
Thoughts?
Support?

I know, I can open the fuel cap and visually check the level but it sure would be nice if the gauge read somewhat accurate.

Is this a problem with the sensor? Has Polaris had problems with this? If I have my dealer replace the fuel tank will this fix it?

Thanks in advance.
That is normal ... the fuel guage is not the height of the fuel in the tank ... it's the amount of fuel you have. All sportsman fuel guages have worked like that since 2004 when they first put them on. IMO the only thing i care about is it reads correctly when low.

well mine was still showing just a touch less than 1/2 when there was only 2litres left in a nearly 16litre tank. I would expect that the gauge, or more appropriately "Low Fuel Warning Indicator", would choose a slightly larger amount of fuel than 2litres to act as a "low" point.

With the econmy that my particual quad gets .. 2l would get me roughly 14km. Around here, on most trails .. that's not getting you handy to a gas station ..

So is your problem fixed or are the parts still on order? Let us know .. mine's going in for the 25 hours service next week, so it would be good to have that taken care of. If the new tank isn't going to fix it I don't see the need to bother with replacement.

I just purchased my 06 500 EFI and have the same issue. I had 3 hrs on it before the first bar went out. I would also like to know if a new fuel tank has fixed this problem or is it operating as designed. Thanks.

Well, this is the story ....

We went riding this weekend over the holiday and now my gauge is working fine. I called the dealer and he got the new tank assembly in but told me if mine is reading accurate, leave it alone. We figured that maybe the float was stuck and a good hard ride bumped it loose and thats all it took.

My dealer is going to keep this new tank in stock for a couple of weeks so if my problem returns, we can replace it. I wish I had better news for you. Its good news for me though.
