Default PURGING THE RADIATOR

I just replaced the piston and rings in a 2000 Xplorer 400 and I thought I read in one of the posts that you need to purge any air out of the cooling system. Is it necessary and is there a specific way to do it? I searched on several different subjects but didn't find the answer anywhere. Thanks for the help.
