My X2 speedometer
#1
Hi guys, While I was riding today my speedometer stopped working as did my trip meter. I went a few miles like this and then it was working again for a while. It stopped again after 5 miles or so; then it stopped again. I will add that my tach and hour meter are working fine.
Just wondering if anyone else had this problem. Being an intermitent symptom, I am leaning towards a loose connection or a crimped wire. I obviously have full warrenty so I will probably just take it in on my next day off.
By the way, the ride was fantastic! rocky, sandy, muddy (a little), up a mountain side..... The machine handled great!! So far this speedo is my only problem. I have about 150 miles an about 15 hours on it.

Lawdog, I have ruled out the instrument cluster. I found the wire to the sensor. It is in the output shaft housing of the right front wheel. Unfortunately, the wire goes right into the housing so I can't actually touch or see the sensor. I jiggled the shaft in and out and I also moved the wire around a little bit. It then worked for about half of a mile. The way I ruled out the speedo itself was that I disconnected the wire to the sensor and jumped the two wires. The speedo then maxed out. I will probably have to take it in. I would take it apart myself if I didn't have the warrenty.

Have either of you guys had a problem/ or noticed how long it takes for your Fan to kick on?
I just bought my X2 (blk/slv) and I do not even have a full hr on it, and the reserve was over flowing. it did kick on soon after that, so I was thinking being so new and so little use that it just may take awhile to engage.
Also, My store has some mud flaps for a older style ranger, i am thinking about mounting them on my X2. What do yall think? Good idea?

4X4, As far as the coolant goes, it sounds similar to what my 800 did when new. Just keep an eye on the level and it should settle out. My 800 shows at the minimum line when cool on the overflow jug and shows at the maximum line when hot. If I fill it to the recommended level in between the two when cold, it will push some out every time. My X2 will run for a long while before the fan kicks on if I am just kinda' cruising around. I have no idea about the mud flaps but let us know how that works if you try it. Good color choice. You know what they say about great minds! Are you selling the 600 because of the X2 purchase?
jbbooks, let us know what you find out.

My fan comes on quite often, but I must say that we have already hit 100 degrees this year. Arizona has alot of open spaces to ride but it sure is hot. I have not had any overflow problems. my coolant has been at the same level since I picked it up last month. I really feel that yours was either filled too much, or (I know this sounds funny) they did'nt burp it before it left the factory. You did not say if your temp lite was coming on or not. I don't think you have a problem.

No the temp light never did come on, But I had My service Manager do a quick check to see if there was any updateds on this machine, and there was not. this unit was built last month and has all the updates (except the slider) on it. I was quite surprised when I was putting it together that the rubber pull **** was already on. You guys would not believe the work there is in setting up one of these units. The bed is not even on and has to be put on and the locking mechinism has to also put on.
Yes I am selling my 2004 SP600 because of my new Purchase. I keep it at the dealership for a better chance of selling there than at home in my garage. Plus I do not want it to see what I am replacing it with... tear tear,, sob sob.
I will hate to see it go, and secretly hope my wife will just say screw it, keep as a mudding machine. It is a really good quad and I want to see it go to someone who will really enjoy it and take care of. It seems silly I know, but when you put time into something you can't help but miss it....
anyways. I have ditched the mud flap idea. it would have not worked with the dump bed and would get caught up in the wheels.
I have removed the stock 489s and put PXTs on. and I did install the handle bar mirror so I can see my beatiful wife while we ride.. and I rigged up a really cool Slow moving triangle mount on the reciever hitch, we have to have them to ride on MO county roads. When I get back from this ride I am going to get a Lock-n-Ride Plunger and mount the sign on the corner.
Now I just need ear plugs as I have found out that I can hear her, while riding, and she can not hear me. She is really becoming a back seat driver....
On another note, I called Polaris' parts and accessory info line and asked about ATP accesories fitting on the X2. You know like the rear Bumper and the Bed Extender. They will not fit, but I think I will go ahead and get the bed extender and modify it to work.
