Does anyone know how to bypass the override button so the 4wd is engaged when shifted in reverse on a '99 sportsman 500? It's a real pain when plowing snow. Thanks

I did it on my 98 6x6. You can jumper it in the wiring harness pretty easily. I'm sorry I don't remember which wire off the top of my head. You should be able to find it in the wiring schemetics.

Just follow the link in my “signature” below. Look in ATV Odds & Ends for the instructions.

Toad, I can’t explain why you can’t open the document, unless you don’t have anything that will open a file created by MS Word. As an alternative I’ve emailed the text to you personally.

I’ve been making them as the orders come in, not exactly “mass” production.

I installed it on my Xplorer last month. I love it! It really made a nice change in it along with the green spring . Thanks again Floodrunner! Although I rolled it last night being stupid on an icy road. The ribs are a little sore this morning. The only damage is a broken brake lever.

Xplorman, thanks very much for that completely honest and unsolicited testimonial! :-} I’m glad to know how much you like the new steering but sorry to hear about your ribs (ouch). It happens to the best of us. Even though I don’t consider myself a fast or “reckless” rider I usually roll my machine 2-3 times a year.

A couple years ago on this forum someone had what I thought was a very good idea. He reasoned that with only one brake lever, if it ever were snapped off the machine would be without brakes for the return ride. Yeah, I know about the foot brake but have you ever tried to use that to stop? His solution was to carry a spare brake lever under the seat, something I’ve done since reading it.
