Sincere question: is the 800EFI really only 760cc's
Let me throw a question on the 06 800s. Is $7250 a good price on a new sp800 one at the dealer? They said it was just this month at there purchase price and no mark up. Sounds like a good deal to me. They also had a 06 sp 500 efi was $6200 the same price I gave for my sp 500 back in 2002. Plus tax of course.

In my experience, no. When I had my 800 I had the pleasure to race all the big bore Utes available exept the BRP 800. And Prarie 700's and Twin Peaks 700's were frequently on the list. I have lost to Brute Force's but the times I've won compaired to the times I've lost alows me to say I'm faster.
And while I dont give much credit to Magazines because they are all swayed, I will direct you to QUAD magazine, in one issue (i belive second or first) they tested all the big bore utes, and the Polaris 800 came second place to the BRP 800.

The Polaris 800 is not meant to be a racing machine anyhow. I dont understand why the first thing everyone talks about with these is speed when it is a work / utility type ATV not a speed or racing machine. I have driven mine down the road or snowmobile trails in the winter at 55-60 and on a machine this big,,, that plenty fast enough for me. If they do make a true 800, I would be interested in driving one to see the power difference.

since i've owned both the 500 and now the 800, alot has changed in the power range, but the one thing that hasnt is that the sportsman manchines werent built for speed or intended to be the fastest. but i'll tell my b.freind has a bf 750 and i cant even touch him in the speed area. i also drove my other freinds bf 650 last night and that thing is pretty damn quick in it own right. but when we all went riding yesterday(poaris, kawi, and yamahas, and honda's no one could stay with me thru the trails or the rough terrain so that what i love about mine.

Pastor, Don't mean to unpolitely cut in here, but I do have some comments on this topic. Like Stendori said in his last post, I too would agree that Polaris Sportsmans probably aren't the fastest or quickest machines out there when drag racing or running areas wide open enough to exceed 40-50 mph or more; But, if you have good upper body strength, quick reflexes and have honed your riding skills up to an advanced level, sometimes the machine you're on doesn't make that much difference. Every ATV produced is a compromise at some point and time. I chose Polaris based on what was right for my use of the machine, past experiences,my physical condition(able to handle the extra weight), and proximity to a good dealer that is dependable and fair. So many people get hung up on top speed or acceleration or ground clearence etc., and forget about what they probably will end up using the machine for the majority of the time and thus end up being unhappy with their choice. I debated between the new Honda Rincon and the Polaris 700efi. I also would have considered the Outy 800 if there was a dealer anywhere close but there was not. Would I possibly be faster in the woods on the Outy800? Maybe, but I would lose time traveling 50-60 miles out of my way to get to a dealer if I needed something whereas I pass the Polaris dealership every day and they have always treated me very well. So there are compromises and choices to make. On many occasions I've switched machnes with someone on a trail ride, with them thinking they would blow me away when they got on my 700, just to find out that they couldn't keep up with me on their supposedly slower machine. Just as beauty is sometimes in the eye of the beholder, sometimes performance is in the body of the rider.
