Default scrambler 50 bogging problem, and year identification

i'm workin on a scrambler 50 but i don't know what year it is. how can i use the vin to identify year? i can't find anything on the polaris site in parts or owner's manual. the bike runs but you can only give it a little gas before it bogs and stalls. i changed the air filter and cleaned the carb but problem is still there. how does the electric choke work? could this be the problem or more likely the cdi, rev limiter, or etc?

Hey Rieds double check the pilot jet for a speck of dirt. The electric choke does cause a problem too.You may be able to bypass it.
I think the vin number is the same as any Polaris. The yr is the 10th didget. If you have a Polaris manual look in the section for specs.

hey REIDS (or anyone),

Where did you find this carb kit and manual choke and/or who makes it? I have same prob on a quad I bought the kid for Christmas (uht oh, 7 days to fix). I want to try to track down these parts asap. I went through the carb (cleaned) but still bogs. Did you stick with stock jetting? Thanks for any info everyone. HAPPY HOLIDAYS and wish me luck. If I don't get this thing running right by the end of the week I don't what I'm gonna do -

J

I also had to install the choke kit on my daughter's 2001 scrambler 50. I got mine from the local Polaris dealer, had in stock.

gould62,

what was the dealer name and where is it? My local Polaris dealers don't have any idea what I'm talking about in regards to a auto-to-manual choke conversion kit for this machine? Maybe I can contact them, buy it and have it shipped? Funny thing too, they don't seem to have any match for a carb kit either. I have to buy each piece and none of them have anything in stock. Thanks
J

I got mine from Bob's Cycle in Crossville, IL. Should be able look in yellow pages for his number, I believe he is closed on mondays. Mine came with the manual choke, and a kit to rebuild the carb, needle seat and valve and I believe the jet also. He would be able to tell you a part number I am sure.

thanks gould62,

I talked with Bob yesterday and he shipped me out the 'Kit'. I hope I get it by the weekend and maybe, just maybe it will fix the problem I am having?
