K & N Filters, do they make a noticeable difference?
#2
Ridemhard.......
When I put mine in I didn't really notice a difference.......One thing to keep in mind is that the K&N's are prone to problems if you do alot of riding in very dusty conditions.......I actually took mine out and put the stocker back in........I'm not saying not to get one or anything.....If you do get one make sure you get the pre filter too....I know many guys who have them and swear by them.......Good luck..

Run you a prefilter on a K&N and you will notice 2 things first you will never have to buy another airfilter and second you will gain a littler more power (not much but a little)

i run all my stuff with no lid, foam with outerwears. dont get caught up in the k&n mystique. they are ok ,but overall ..i feel foam offers more protection . NO substantial increase with either foam or kn.

Foam filters filter better but flow less. While K&N flow more, but don't filter as well. I tried put K&n on everything I had until I got on this Forum . Now I'm trying to switch to foam. Although I can't say that I have had any problems due to the K&N filters. I used pre filters on the K&N filters. There isn't that big of a power gain with changing to an aftermarkey filter. Changing the airfilter and adding an exhaust system will give you a noticable gain.

I noticed a significant difference in top end rev and low end power. The low end rad a better transition to the mid. and top end believe it or not but the speedo says 3 mph! this is on my 01 sportsman 500 ho, My scrammy has one too but I bought it with the filter already in it. Hope this helps, Brian

seems you wouldnt get that much of a gain unless you replace the exhaust as well. dont make much differnce how much air gets in if it get out w/ the same pipe.

will just dusting the carb on a stocker 400,add a pipe and clutch kit and you'll notice the big gains and still pretty
reliable if you do not consider a new piston in yet...
