I ride a 98 Grizzly and my wife is on a 99 Sportsman. Now it's getting time to get my teenager on a full sized quad. While I like both machines and have had no significant
problem, I've found that the "true 4wd" on the Polaris makes a big difference in the areas I ride. Is it only Polaris and Suzuki that make true 4wd? Not interested in lockers as many report they make the quad hard to steer. Does the Suzuki 4wd work in anything but "low low"

Thanks,

Gimp

I have heard that Arctic Cat 300 4x4s hcan have true 4wd but you lose 2wd by getting it.

You have to do a little modification to the 300 AC, so it really would fall under the same category of locker since there is no actual selection of differential lock. The Suzuki is the only true locking differential, because the polaris has to have rear wheel slippage to get the fronts to engage. This means no 4wheel drive downhill, but a lot of people can make that sacrifice for the uphill and mud traction. If you are dead set on that two fronts pulling thing, then there is no other selection but the traxter, the king quad, or a polaris. If not, the posibilities are endless. To me, it isn't that big of a deal, because a limited slip front end will get you in a lot of places that 2wd won't and you kind of have to look for a place that you would actually need a locking front diff.

gimp,
I read a post on one of the forums re an alteration which can be made to the KQ allowing it to engage the diff lock in low range rather that super low. I don't remember what the alteration was or who posted it, but apparently it worked. You might post your question on the utility forum & have some luck there.
I had occasion to use the diff lock this past Sat when the young man I let ride my KQ lost control & ran it into a ditch at a 45 deg angle & both left wheels in the air. I slipped it into super low diff lock & shifted to 3rd gear & drive it right out, so having to use super low for diff lock isn't really that big of a deal anyway

Gimp,You should consider getting a Locker 4 Your Grizzly in the very near future.I talked to Henry@ATVLocker About getting a Locker 4 my Grizzly and he says that it does make it hard to turn.but he said they are curently making an "Easy Steer Kit" 4 The Grizzly.I asked when would I be able to buy one and he said that they are currently in process of manufacturing it and should be out in 2 months!

Jamie,

I would be interested in that. I like the Grizzly but my wife has pulled me out a stuck twice now. A Grizzly with real 4 wd would put an end to that nonsense!
