Sportsman 90 starting problem

Sportsman 90 starting problem
When my sons 2001 Sportsman 90 is cold it is very hard to start. I suspect the automatic choke is not functioning. Does anyone know how to test this item?
Is there anything else I should look for? Coil, CDI etc? What is the test procedure for these items?

Bump.
Also wondering if anyone has used a CDI from a different ATV with the 90 motor?
I located one but it only has 3 bullet connectors where the stock one has four. Was told that I simply do not use the existing grey wire.
Sound correct?
