first overheat

when it rains it pours (so to speak that is)i had my first problem w/ the 800 overheating today on the way home after a 35 mile ride thru the woods and mud. i was going to post tonight how my buddys bf 750 had the same issues w/ overheating again and then i had to hot wire his fan to work because of a bad wire somewhere. but instead about 2 miles from home the hot was flashing and time i got iot home it was spitting out antifreeze like a hot volcano.we went thru somw good water after a real mud bath then hit another bad hole and it was enough to plug part of the rad. and it was about 90 degrees. oh yea almost forgot the new cv and boot my dealer put on and charged me all out doors, the clamp came off, and you guessed it it ate another cv joint.

Not sure what to say about your dealer... perhaps buy the whole joint off ebay or do it yourself...
When the hot light comes on.. i strongly advise pulling over to let it cool. If you continue to drive, the head of the engine could warp. I am sure the overheating was due to the plugged radiator. After it had cooled, how much fluid was still in the system? If you found it dry, the mechanical seal could be at fault (this will commonly break on machines run in the mud).
I'd really like to have a digital temp guage on the dash pod so I could see a rapid rise in temperature before the hotlight comes on. On the EFI models, the digital temp is displayed on the computer at the dealer, so I'm sure there is a way to make it happen on the dash pod. any ideas?

My cousins AC was bad about overheating ever time he hit the water fuse would blow and then all the coolant would blow out. Could be mud in the radiator. I been all over with 800 never had it overheat or seen one do it. My cousins V2 AC needs a new engine now and it only had 400 miles on it. The BF may have blown a fuse?

no this didnt drain the entire rad really a cup out of the rad and almopst all of the over flow tank. i wasnt that far from my house when it started overheating. i actually went to the dealer this morning and took pictures that i took of the clamp off and asked him if they go good for their work and now he wants me to bring the bike in. so tomorrow i'll take it down and see. i told him not to touch it if thier not going to go good for it.
