800 cv disassembly

ok guys, i m not familiar w/ this set up on taking apart the cv joint it has a funny c clip w/ no holes in it. do you need a special tool? this clip is on the inside of the shaft that holds the ***. to the shaft. help if you can thanks.

The way you are describing it i think it might just be a compression clip. Meaning to release it just pull and to put it back in just push back. Sometimes they take quite abit of work but they will eventuallly come loose.

youre thinking of the compession ring like on the end of the shaft that holds the cv in the rear end. its not like that its more like a regular snap ring w/out the holes for the tool but w/ ears that are bent outward. ive tried to use my ring pliers to speard the ring w/ some sucesses but when i try to pull out the cv end off the shaft no go. the clip acually sits inside where you cant even see the groove that the clip rides in.

I just had mine apart. I used a needle nose pliers, stick the needle nose end in between the ears of the clip and push it in as far as it will go and then spread the pliers apart . Shouldnt need much and the shaft should slide right out.

I also just use 2 flathead screwdrivers and spread it apart. It takes a little messing with to get it to go but it will if you stay at it long enough.

errrr - please excuse silly question but I am new to atvs
the CV joints [front] I am just fixing up simply have the shaft free to move in and out on the spline, and I understand all that
but the one in this picture has a clip? - what's that all about?

well thats what i've been doing to try to get it off, so i guess i'll keep at it. doc this a rear cv on an 06 model for the rear. i beleave they all have some sort of clip to hold it on the shaft.

well i got off the cv from the shaft and ground out all the dimples to slide out the ball and cage ***. from the holder. i was going to buy a rebuild kit but holder is all rusty where the ***** slide in and out of. the crome facing has been worn off. man it doesnt take much to ruin one of these. i guess i'll have to spend big bucks and get a factory replacement.
