STOCK?Whats that?
My 330 was stock for about a year until it powered out climbing a steep hill and then I knew it needed clutch help. Now it will climb hills and get a top speed of close to 55mph up from 45.
Polaris underclutches their machines to make them easy enough to ride so your grandma wnt be intemidated.

great topic!

over the years i kept my Sportsman's stock except for wheels and tires on a couple. i keep it simple so as not to hamper reliability. i add the usual though like a winch(a MUST), rack bags filled with safety gear essentials.

i think a lift will cause damage. so did my old 26" Outlaw tires. if i put an aftermarket tire on again i won't go so aggressive a tread design. but i will tell ya, those Outlaws took me anywhere i wanted to go! LOL! (i think i had they on a '99 SP500)

anyways, enough blabbing 4 now! LOL!

Whats the problem with mods? I don't have any MODS...I just have ADD-ONS. I too have the Dayco belt...seems to be some controversy there with aftermarket belts.

Do any of these K&N air filters really last as long as they
claim? Looks just like stock from the pics on their web sie.
Is it made from other materials then paper based? I only
ask cause they claim you can wash/reuse last up to 50,000 miles.
I am wondering if that text is more for the car/trucks.

Thanks,

I see some with 450 Sportsman like me running
800 tires. What advantages do you get, a little raise
clearance? Would it absorb impact of bumps, ditches
etc? Better climbing?

Thanks,

if you looked my pics. you would see my wifes 450 w/ my 800's rims and tires. there 1" taller and their radials vs. bias so she gets a better ride. not to mention they look good on hers as well.

I bought my used ATV stock last fall. (As long as you consider bumpers and a winch stock...they came on the machine from the dealer) The only "mods" I made were rims and tires. The original tires were worn and needed replacing, and I wanted radial tires. The stock front rims on the 2000 SPs were 10", and I couldn't find the radials I wanted in 10", so I had to go with new 12" rims. Friends of my also have 2005 SP 700's that are stock and will most likely stay that way until the tires need replacing due to wear. Why mess with a good thing?

Oh, yeh, I forgot about the street legal "mods" which basically consist of a horn and rear view mirror. But I consider these accessories....like tank bags or storage boxes, not mods.

Horns is a nice idea, my wife and I almost collided with a guy on a dirt bike
coming at us, zipping around a corner. Budds creeks is really cool trail but
I do not like the fact that traffic is two-way. My wife and I were almost
rolled, in fact it happened like in our first 2 minutes entering the
trail and our first intro to Budds Creek. That idiot shouldn't have been doing
that speed around the closed corner without any sight anyways.

I told the wife next time let him run into us, heading into our steal front
bumper/brush guard and winch. Better than her and I getting rolled for
some duffus. So where would you get these ATV horns? I am a safety
nut anyways why not a horn?

Thanks,
