Default polaris 500 underpowered?

a married couple i know has a pair of 500 h.o. polaris sportsmans. one is 04 and one is 04.5 the latter one having a much better shifting mechanism. 04 shifting mechanism is impossible for me and her, difficult for him. anyways, hers sucks as far as power goes. not a whole lot of snap off the line. it rides decent enough and i have mixed feelings about it's handling. can you guys tell me how much of a jump is the 600 in power. i know it's a twin and some say that helps plus a 100 extra cc's never hurt anybody. anyone ridden both. i don't hear alot about the 600. what's it like power wise. should i keep an eye out for one or get a 700 if we get anything. we're thinking about a 500-700 class four wheeler by the end of the year, used, cheap as possible, low miles as possible (i know the american dream, get something for nothing) we are willing to wait for a good deal but tell me about the difference between 500, 600, and 700 powerwise please.

Default polaris 500 underpowered?

I have a sp600 and have rode a 500ho. The 600 definately has more power, better low end but top speed is about the same. The 600 runs a little smoother and is more responsive. They dropped the 600 for what reason I dont know.

How long do you think you will be happy if you got a 600...... then you wish you got a 700.......then after a bit you just might be wanting to give the 800 a try.........DOES IT EVER END .........NO......caper........

Look at it this way......How much power does a person really need to have FUN..........

I understand the twins use alot more fuel. And, that the 500 is the most reliable engine Polaris has. The 500 has enough power for me. My two cents.

my 500HO goes everywhere my buddys 700EFI goes. If you can ride it well, a 500HO does just fine
