I have a friend with this 98 400 scrambler. It seems that it is not getting spark to the plug. He was riding it when it stopped running. He has replaced the coil but that didnt correct the problem. Still no spark. I have told him to use a new plug, then check all the connections. If this doesent fix the problem I am looking for other ideas to help. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

more then likely its what scramblered said about the stator. just make sure its not something simple as the kill switch srewing up.

 

i have looked at the stator plate assembly. There are no moving parts. How could the coils go bad? Thanks.

 

maybe not the coil itself but,a fine wire relaying to the ignition ground clip can be the problem,
if you want a coil right away,i have a brand new 03 one for sale.

 

the windings in a coil can break.

 

How much are you asking?

 

Id try a new boot and wire first. They thread in on both ends.
The wire must be a real copper wire. Not silicone.
