Default Extended Warranty, Worth it?

I've had an 05 700 EFI since March. I got the Dale Jr. Special Edition. I love the machine but, it has been in for repairs more than I would prefer. Both front inside cv boots tore at the same time. Polaris fixed and I bought stick stoppers. Rear plastic cracked under the seat were it bolts to the frame. Polaris fixed. It was in the shop twice for the belt housing leaking water. Polaris covered it. Had to have two gaskets replaced. Finally got it fixed. Now just this past weekend the check engine light came on. I'ts a code 45. Something with the barometric sensor. I talk to guys all the time who say they have never had to have their machine in the shop. I only have 120 miles on my quad. I do the maintenance and clean it after every ride. Is this normal when you get a brand new one? Somebody please give me some insight. My dealer said $755 plus tax for a 48 month $50 deductible warranty. Is this good and worth it?

heyy Ridemhard im sorry to hear about your quad in the shop all the time but yah me and my dad have ridden polaris's all our lives and never had a problem with them but i guess with every 100 good quads theres bound to be a troublesome one so i guess if you feel its good to have the dealer pick up the bill for reapairs id say go for it and as for the check engine light my dads magnums has that light on all the time and its just a censor that came loose... happy ridding

well i would say you got a hell of a good dealer if he replaced your cv boots for you under warranty. i had one ripped and come off at the cost of 2 cv joints at 400.00 plus and they would help me out at all. so you got a good dealer. in my case i got the 3 yr extended warr w/ the bike for nothing and its a good thing because in my opinion i dont think they cover as much as we think so in my case i wouldnt buy one. i didnt on my wifes 450. just my 2 cents.

Its misleading. It will not cover sensors, wiring, gaskets, seals, hoses and many other parts. Say a water pump goes out...they will replace the pump but not the gasket. Will cover a new belt but not adjustments to the clutch?????? Its very misleading.

Thanks for your input. I was teetering with the idea. That is kind of retarded what they will and won't cover. As far as the cv boots. I had to stress that other people have had the same problem. Referencing a guy who lives around me who had the same problem and got it covered. So what do you do if you don't know what the diagnostic code is? Where for example is the code 45 sensor? Anyone know?

Ridemhard,

That code 45 is the b-map sensor. On my '04, the sensor is right over top of the throttle body in front of the airbox. I have had this happen twice. The first time the dealer said it was a bad sensor and replaced it under warranty. The last time was about 3 monthes ago and I looked at it myself. The wires that had been replaced on the b-map harness were very chewed up. I can't prove it, but believe the mechanic at the dealers screwed them up changing the first sensor and just taped them into position. Once the tape wore out, the wires were the problem, giving me the code 45 again. I replaced the wires and all is well again. BTW, disconnect the battery for a minute and your codes will clear. Hope this helps.

For me I have never bought extended warranty for anything. Never experienced anything that would have required it...but not saying that other people do not. With my Polaris ATVs I have never had one back for anything other than routine maintenance...maybe I have been lucky but for whatever reason I'm not complaining about not spending the cash for an extended warranty.

Soooo true!! Polaris should offer a lifetime warranty on their quads because you will spend a lifetime of taking it back to the shop.
