Maintenance on new machine
#1
I finally bought my first ATV, the 2000 Magnum 500 4x4! It's great machine - glad the search is over. Now, I would like to ask the pros out there if it is worth the $200 dealer charge for the 10 hour check-up. This is to include an oil change, fluids and belts check, retorquing and overall inspection. Seems foolish to spend more money on a brand new machine but they would not throw it in unless I buy the $595 warranty for 5 years. Is an extended warranty necessary or I am just helping them make more profit from me?

I think that it is up to you. I work for a dealer ship and I find, all of the quads that I have worked on, the every day joe can do the maintanence on these quads. Everything is accessible to a person and it does not take a genious to figure out how to do the maintanence on them. If I were you I would do it my self. It just depends on how machanically incline you are.

Are you going to put any mods on your new machine? If so then i wouldn't buy the extended warranty. I bought the extended warranty for my machine. After i put a clutch kit in my machine the dealership told me my warranty was void. You have to have all the work done by an "authorized polaris mechanic". So basically i payed an extra 895 dollars to have my oil changed for the next 4 years. Wow! what a deal. If you do leave your machine stock then i believe it would be a wise investment.
