just bought new 800 EFI

I just got my 06 800 back from the local dealer today from its first service. I had also taken it in for hard shifting thru the gears, they said it was normal. I also had them look at the banging noise in the drive terrain when going on or off the throttle and they also said it was normal and was caused by the ebs and clutches. I also had them fix my left side muffler as it was rubbing against the sway bar causing a vibration noise. I am also new to Sportsmans and also thought that there was something wrong because of the knocking noise, but after researching here on the forum it sounds like it is normal and nobody seems to have any problems with it even with thousands of miles on their machines.

As for the heat get peice of mind and spend about 150 bucks and get the header pipe and heat sheild cremic coated. You may or may not have a melting issue but I did and my bike is laid up at the dealer for at least 2 weeks.

I'm just curious when these heat issues come up, I bought my 800 on 2 Aug. my best friend bought his the next day, we haven't had any problems yet. What was the manufacture date on the atvs with problems and when did they fix the heat issues. My quad is dated 10/25/05 while his is dated 2/21/06. I did notice a difference in the seat mounting. My seat was loose and upon checking his found six rubber type spacers under his seat to take up any slack. His overall seat fit is better, I was wondering if any other modifications were done since the original heat issues. The dealer stated all the heat problems had been cleared up.

Thanks for the info, I'm thinking of putting in the liquid ice or whatever its called and see what happens, but I will check with the dealer to make sure I don't void my warranty or something. I have heard that is good stuff?

your motor isnt running hot, the only reason for a Sportsman 800 to ever over heat would be a clogged up radiator. if you want to run watter wetter or liquid ice be my guest, but it isnt neccisary. the heat your feeling is ALL coming from the header.

I went back to the dealer yesterday and pick up my bike. They can't even get to it until next week sometime. So here is my take on the Polaris's. The header pipes are extremely hot and the bike make allot of noise. Anything else I should do so I don't have to take it to the dealer? I love the bike but all this stuff I am hearing about or reading about kind of takes away my confidence in Polaris. Am I wrong?
