Farmr123, Good point! I looked at the book again and you are right. It seems the wheel hub rotation can only disengage (over-ride) The Hilliard clutch. The axle must have rotaion to lift the rollers as you said. No axle movement....no cam movement. I sort of tested this on the quad up on the stand today. Key on, 4WD on, in gear. The front wheels spun free both forwad and backward with. I then turned the rear wheels forward (holding the front tires still) and the fronts hubs engauged and moved the wheels forward. I turned the rear wheels backwards and the hubs engauged and turned the fronts backwards. Interesting also was that it only took a little less then 1/4 turn of the rear tires to engage the fronts hubs from a forward rotation to backward.

Would it be safe to say that if you could slow the rear wheels when braking (like an anti-lock brake would) with out locking them up the front hubs would engauge and also help to slow down? Not that it would be easy to do on the polaris. Just a sanity check though. Thanks, GJ
