Default Pull cord housing full of oil

I recently purchaced a used 1996 sportsman 500 and found the last owner had filled the pull cord housing full of oil. (he said he was trying to change the crank case oil) after draining the oil I ran the engine for about 30 miles and found the power was greatly reduced. I have removed the cover and the flywheel and am cleaning the layer of film from the stator magnets now but would like to know if any damage could have occoured to the stator ? I still have good spark but no power at top end. any Ideas ?

wow, thats a first for me to hear that. i would say get some electronic cleaner aand spray it real good after you clean it and give it a try. hard to say if it would screw it up.
