Sounds like the polaris is the deal I take....But you are on the polaris form.....Did you ask the same question on the Yamaha form?....Be careful with the title papers....It should be cleared BEFORE you buy....thats my point of view......caper.....

I agree with Caper. MAKE SURE those papers are taken care of B4 you buy. Also agree with caper that your in polaris forum so here, the popo will get the nod. Here's a few other factors in my opinion as I am a fan of both the popo and the grizzly. If the grizzly has a snorkel kit and 589 tires on it, you know the that chances are it has been put to the test hard. 589's are no light tire and will wear out bearings, axles etc more so than stock. Also keep in mind that if the bike is snorkeled with and wheel kit, your 2 year warranty no longer means anything as it hsa now been voided. I am a very hard on my machines and have big wheel kits etc on mine and if I were to be buying a used machine, I know for sure i would stay away from any used bike that looks like it had been ridden by me (big wheels, snorkel etc) as I know what this does to a machine.

Again, both are great machines, but in this case, id say go wiht the popo 700. Well, in pretty much any case id probably tell you to go with the popo 700 unless the price of the grizz was a great steal. But the grizzly mentioend seems to have a lot of red flags that would keep me away from buying it....

You have to be careful of the papers. I bought a car 3 years ago, the guy I got it from was a friend so that made it ok but he had it financed. I went to my bank and financed it, my bank paid off his bank and the titles were handled by the banks. No no chance of getting hosed..

I have a 06 Polaris and am happy with the machine. I also have a Yamaha Big Wheel and a Yammy street bike. THe street bike is awsome. Runs perfect. The Big wheel is a blast. Never let me down.

Yamaha makes some good rides. When I was looking hard for my quad I was looking hard at a Grizz, I went with the Sportsman because I felt that the Sportsman felt better to me. It fit me better.

You cant go wrong with either machine.. Both are good. If this was me looking at this situation your in. I agree with Caper about the papers, protect yourself. Id call the bank or finance company he is dealing with so you can be sure you get the papers.

I agree with Power also. THe 589's are not light tires and its been snorkeled. To me that says that machine has the possibility of being ridden hard. Both machines have about the same miles on them. 120 miles is a 1 day long ride. Thats it... So compare apples to apples on the miles..

IF you have a extra grand if it was me. Go buy a new 07 or 06.. I was looking at used 03 and 04's but they wanted about a thou less.. I looked at it this way. I got new because I knew what it had been thru, who sat on it, how it was ridden, how it was maintained.

For the extra $ Id go new. I was not happy about spending extra but now I am sure happy i did..

THe payments are not that much different. For a 06 500HO.. Example of mine..
Loan for $6000 at 7.5% at 36 mo would be a payment of $186.00 for a new 06 500 ho
Loan for $5000 at 7.5% at 36 mo would be a payment of $155.53 for a used 03 500 ho.

For $31.00 extra a month you could have a new one. Minus the winch and plow. $300 for a winch and $400 for a plow. Thats for a new one.

My first ever new vehicle also.!

But if it was between the Grizz or the Sportsman. Id go for the Sportsman because it is in cherry shape and hasnt been snorkled or modded. Both machines have the same accessories.

G
Id look at the new ones also. I rode my friends 700 Twin, there is a little difference in power but not a whole ton. I wanted to get a 700 but couldnt justify spending the extra $. My 500 has a top end of 61mph. Most of the trailriding we do we dont go above 30.. I think his 700 has a top end of around 70 or so. DOnt know about the Grizz.. We go riding with a friend on here, Xploridaho, he has a Grizz and seems to be happy with it.

Good luck, pick what ever fits you best. So with your gut. let us know what you pick.

I bought a used 660 grizzly and All I got was a hand written receipt. Whats this about papers? I didn't know I needed any title or anything like that.. or that a quad even has a title. Should I go back to the Yamaha/Polaris dealer I bought it from and ask about it?

Here in Ontario,Canada If stopped by the Law on the Trails you need proof of ownership,Insurance,Drivers licence, and (trail pass if needed in that area).
Same as snowmobiling...Ontario pass for 2007 $240.00 Can. Funds
How do you know if the used 660 grizzly was stolen????
I can write you out a receipt also and use any name I want......How will you know???(Dealer excluded)
Quads and snowmobiles theft is on the rise here in Ontario, and you the buyer need to protect yourself BEFORE you make the sale!!!!...Caper..........

Are your trails protrolled and any laws inforced?
D.U.I. here on a quad or sled is the same as a car or truck here!!!! STRICT !!!!!!

my 800 and 450 was the first time ive ever seen a title on a 4 wheeler. we dont need them here in maine nor do we need insurance. i think the grizz hs been put in the deep mud if its been snorkled. maybe been abushed. if the wheeler was used as collatrel on the loan then yes they can come get it if he doesnt pay for it i would think.

I bought the ATV used from a very reputable dealership. It is in like new condition, I don't know about a snorkel or if it has one, but if I'm not mistaken, the dealership sold it originally, and then the owner traded in the 660 Grizz for a new 700 a few weeks ago. Anyway, I'm sure the dealership would have to do some kind of background checks (if he hadn't originally sold it from his own store) before they aquire stolen merchandise. I was just wondering about it since I haven't owned an ATV in a while.. and thought maybe the laws had changed and/if now you HAD to have a title. I can't imagine having to have the title and papers on your person while riding off-road. Luckily, after I posted my last message I went straight to the dealership and inquired about this, and in the state of Georgia it is not a requirement to have a bill of sale, or any papers readily available, in case you are stopped. In other words, it is not the same as purchasing a vehicle. Aside from that, I paid cash for 3 different ATV's when I made my purchase and all I got was a bill of sale.

all you need here to register a atv (if you buy from a private sale)is a bill of sale. that way they know much sales tax to charge you when you register it. at the dealership you pay it there so they give you a form saying you paid it.

I bought a used Yamaha Phazer back in Nova Scotia Canada in the late 80's and I also needed a bill of sale to Register it. However when I went to do this .........they could not transfer it to my name due to the fact the guy I bought it from never did register it in HIS name so he didn't pay sales tax.........

So now they told me to go back and get him to register it before he was able to sell it to me.....Yeh Right he said.......He was not going to do this just to pay the sales tax on the sled he don't own anymore............to sell to me (he already has the money from two days ago).

I should not have bought it when I knew he did not have it in his name!!!!!! Bottom line!!!!!!
..Caper......
Never did get it registered....BTW.........
