Default 700 Gizz or 700 Polaris

I am leary of first year model lineup changes. I wonder if that is SOME of my issues with my quad!? I will never be the first to "GET THE NEW THING" again. I am not putting all the blame in this catagory. After all these are not riden in the cleanest environment around!

my uncle just got his 700 grizzly on saturday, first off i am anti yamaha, every time i went ridin a yammy held us up. with that said the 700 grizzly is awsome. loved every minute. i bought a 700 AC 3 weeks ago, but i wanted a workhorse mud machine. thats why i went with the AC. one of my buddys picked up his polaris 800 on saturday also and i didnt care for that to much. it was between the 800 pl and the 700 AC and im glad i got the AC, but now that i rode that yamaha 700 grizzly, i dont know, im kinda in regret. but its still a yammy give it a year and ill be towin him home every weekend. hopefully. lol.

Actually according to the Can-Am literature they put them on the Dyno and the Polaris has 10% more horsepower than the Grizzly and is the closest to the Outlander with the Polaris being about 23% less than the Outlander and the Grizzly 33% less. Of course it is a Can-Am publication.

Are you sure it was the 700 Grizz in your comparison because it sure runs better than the 660 Grizz

I watched the video a few weeks ago and it said the can-am 800 had 25% more HP than the Kawie BF750 and 27% more HP than the pol800 and 30% more HP than the KQ. I don't remember seeing anything about the griz, but I could have been picking my nose when it appeared....LOL.

My quick 2 cents. I like both and ride both. For mudding, trail riding and LONG days. I prefer the POPO 700. Grizzly is a great machine as well but here are my concerns: 1: Power steering? Not for me. one, the grizz is one of the easiest quads to steer in the first place and electronic power steering is just another new electronic thing for me to fry and not be able to fix myself. it is not needed and electronics in what I ride DONT mix. Hence why i chose to have a carb 700 and NOT efi. 2: THe new grizz, although redesigned and on paper looks great and first ride impression are also great, according to the yammy dealer I ride with quite a bit, he wouldnt purchase one for about 2 or 3 years and says if your in the market for a new machine and want yammy, get the proven 660 for now. It has had some recalls already and the few he's sold have had many problems with them already as well. Cant bash yamaha for this. All new genration models go through growing pains and the grizz has been redesign SIGNIFICANTLY. the 660 grizz was a reliable machine after 8 years in the making but this is a whole new world for yammy and needs some time to iron it all out.

I do prefer the clutch system in the grizzly over the popo. If you ride hard, chances are the popo will eventually blow a belt. Very cheap and easy to replace yourself and polaris will warranty it without question. (bout 45 minute job in the trail if you need to). The grizz on the other hand has a better clutch system that seems to be easier on the belt. And they apparently solved the axle breaking design issues they were having with the 660 on the new 700.

Final ride thoughts. If you want comfort (ride a couch that will plow through the roughest of terrain without hesitation) go popo. If you want a nimble quick little machine that can manoeuvre around tight corners, trees while steering with your pinky and have a beer in the other hand, go grizz. Yamaha usually backs their product well so if you dont mind some trips to the dealer while the new grizz gets ironed out, it is a nice new machine that I will consider myself in about 3 years time.

Good luck. Let us know what you do

The way I would look at it is which bike will still be going strong after 2,3,5 yrs!? I had a yami before my current polaris and after 2 yrs the only thing I fixed/replaced was the brake pads. With the polaris the list is long, very long! As I type this its in the shop getting a new roller cage assembly put in the diff.
I just think the build quality is a bit better on the Yamaha
my.2cents

They are both good bikes, i have a 04' 700 and an 07' 800 and ride with two grizzly's. The only major difference is the weak axles on the grizz, both guys i ride with run 27" tires and both have replaced the front axles at least once. Something to think about.
