700 Gizz or 700 Polaris

the 700 grizz is a bit faster than the 700 sportsman, but i belive that the sportsman has it beat in every other catigory. would be better off compairing the 800 sportsman to the 700 grizz

This is the Polaris forum so everyone is going to say get the Sportsman. Myself, I would rather have the Grizzly. As you can see below I own a Grizzly but I am not biased for Yamaha or any other manufacturer. I guess it depends on what you are going to use it for. I like the Grizzly better than the Sportsman for several reasons.
It's lighter, I think it looks MUCH better, and everything about it it is much sportier than the Sportsman which is important to me but maybe not to others. I also hate the way Polaris has one hand brake lever that controls all of the brakes. That's one of my biggest complaints about my Scrambler but I am about to fix that with a split brake kit. I also do not like Polaris's 4x4 system. It works well, it's just a matter of personal preference, I just like to have full control over which tires are pulling and which tires aren't at all times.
With all of that said, if you are going to use the quad for work then the Sportsman would be a better choice in my opinion.
To answer your question scrammersam, yes the new Grizzly does have the shifter on the left side which is pretty stupid.
One last thing to remember about the new Grizzly is...just that...it's new so there could possibly still be a few bugs they haven't worked out but so far all I have heard is praise for it.

You have to ride the the new Grizz to comment on it because its it's all new. The best thing about it is the PS in the rocks it works well no rock shock and you can turn it with one hand this is important improvement in ATVS . As far as power seems too have more power than the sp 800 but that's hard to tell.

I have heard the new 700 griz is a nice upgrade from the 660 griz. The handling is suppose to be better and the added cc's with EFI helps get the power closer to the competition. It might seem to have more power than the sp800, but that is because of the weight difference. However, I doubt it has more power than the sp800. That is not to say it isn't powerful.
When deciding between the griz700 and the sp700, that is a tough one. Here is my take, but of course I haven't ridden the new griz yet, so I am kinda going on what I have heard.
Power: Griz700 might have slightly more, but they should be pretty close.
Ride: Pol700 - polaris has the most comforatble ride, althought I heard the 700griz is better than the 660 griz.
Fast Handling: Probably the griz700, but haven't heard anything yet.
Slow Handling: Pol700 because of the nice ride
Towing: Even if the griz700 has more power, the pol700 might win here due to weight
Dependability: Both are good, but I give the edge to yamaha, although this is the 1st year for the new 700griz.
4WD System: Both are good and different. The pol700 is switch and go. The griz is switch and go, but stop for diff locker then go. This is a pick your prefference.
Top Speed: The griz700 should do about 65-68mph while the pol700 should do about 63-66mph. As far as utility quads, to me this is a mute issue due to what I use them for. I rarely get my bf750 about 55mph and that is on a smooth fire road. Most of the time I go up to about 35mph.
IMO, this is a toss up. The pol700 is a great quad and the griz700 should be as well, based on the success of the 660griz.
Just my 2 cents worth, which I could be totally wrong.

The 700 grizz is a big improvement over the old 660 grizz so before you buy a new ATV you should ride it . Im not a yamaha person in fact the worst AtV that I ever had was a 99 grizz but I like to ride as many different ones as I can and the PS is a big step forward. I have also rode the sp 700 and the sp 800 and I ride an outty 800 max as far as power The grizz is closer to the outty than the Polaris's but that not even close.

I currently own a 2002 grizzly and a 2006 grizzly, as well a 2005 sp500ho. After owning a grizzly and a polaris, I will never own another grizzly or yamaha again. I have not had any mechanical problems with the yammy's but they just don't ride, perform, or handle nearly as well as the polaris does, except for speed. They are quick, but that's the only advantage it has over my popo.
