My MV7's have approx 300 miles. When the left rear CV joint boot tore, mud got in the joint and damaged it causing a clicking noise in the rear. Other than that, no noises from rear. I would however check your front rock guards and make sure they are not rubbing on your CV boots. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

No, my problem sound is anytime I back up or go forward when I am pulling a load (my boat). It may have always done this but I do not remember it. I have less than 20 hours on it and have gotten it pretty muddy so far. I (mistake) cleaned it twice with my pressure washer and may have pushed some mud in the boots. My boots are not torn, and it really seems that the noise is coming from the rear differential. The noise sounds like a chain slipping on a gear and then catching. Other than the noise I do not notice any problems backing up such as slipping like a clutch on a car. One other thing that may have caused the problem is that I was going to move my boat and stupidly left the hand brake on and the belt slipped enough to cause some smoke before I realized why boat was not moving. I always use low gear when I move my boat around the yard. I am not sure if I have a limited slip rear end that may be making the noise as it rotates and engages? I am at a loss and do not want to make any needed repairs more expensive by riding until I go to the dealer. I wanted some "real world" advice before going to the dealer so that they would not give me a run around since it is under warranty.

My boat is about 1500 lbs I think. It is a fiberglass Ranger 16' with a 70 hp motor. I am planning to take it in for service next week if I find the time, and maybe they can check it out. I have not abused it enough to break anything in the rear end I imagine. I think I will check it out today and raise the rear end up so that I can see if anything is rubbing like some of you have mentioned. I have raised the two rear shocks two notches so maybe the drive shaft is out of alignment. I did notice that the u-joint connection to the rear spline has a hole that does not look like it has a set screw in it. I will know more later after checking it over. Did you say that when you are in reverse that you do not hear anything at all on your two bikes? Mine makes the noise with the over-ride button pushed or not pushed. I appologize for taking so much of your time, but maybe I will take your comments and some of the others and check over things well. I will let you and everone else know the outcome!

I have found a small tear in one of the rear outer boots at the bottom of it. There is grease coming out. I imagine I got water into it the last time I rode since it is torn. Would that cause the clicking? I do not know much about cv joints so, I guess they would click if they have cantaminated grease? I could find nothing else wrong as far as the boots rubbing or anything like that. I cannot find a grease fitting on the drive shafts if they have any.

When a cv goes bad, is it obvious to see the damage? I just wonder if the grease being contaminated would cause the noise since the ball bearings would be under friction? I have not even gotten the cv off yet. Yesterday, I finally found a small c-clip on the cv. How do I remove the clip or how do I get it out of the way so I can hammer off the cv?

I used www.gorilla-axle.com for an outer CV kit, comes with boot and CV with clip. Clip is spread using inside snap ring pliers. Cost around $95.00
