Polaris MV7 problems
#1
I own 2 MV7's purchased in April 2006. One needed both front shafts replaced due to torn boots from poorly designed rock guards rubbing on boots while driving, one rear boot on same machine was also torn but not from rubbing on guard. All covered under warranty. The fix was to relocate rock guard further inboard so guard will not rub on boot, but will rub on metal portion of inboard cv joint. My other MV7 has been to dealer twice for inability to shut engine off with key or emergency switch. Found that moving headlight switch to high would shut it off!!! First time Surepower box was replaced, no help. This one also has another torn rear boot, but Polaris will not cover saying boot could have been torn by rocks or sticks. Also the front winch failed while pulling a Bombardier out of the mud. MV is presently at dealer awaiting fix. Overall this machine is awesome and will go anywhere. It is very heavy to maneuver when slow. I was told by 20 yr Polaris mechanic that he suspects boots are failing due to sharp angle between inboard cv and outboard cv. None of my ridind friends 500's or 700's lose boots yet we ride together. The last problem was one MV would not shift into any gear while engine was running. I could shift if engine was off. Dealer replaced drive belt and adjusted clutch under warranty. Overall I love the machine's but reliability is of concern. I expected better reliability as these are driven by the US military under extreme conditions.

the boots are a common issue with all polaris'. gaurds like Stick Stoppers work alot better in protecting your boots and are made of Aluminum rather than plastic. as far as your electrical issue, i havent heard of that one on this forum ever. and as far as the winch failing, that would be on Warn's account since they're Warn Winches

For the most part, torn boots are luck of the draw. I went 5 years and never tore a boot but then 2 within a month. I also know that the mv7's are not exactly like the military has. There are some things on them they we don't get due to the even higher cost.

I wonder if we will ever see the day when we can purchase a used MV that was military issue? Like they used to do with the jeeps. I know that they would probably be 2/3 worn out, but they would probably go cheap.

The US military drives a upgraded version not available to us..... although I hear the side mount sub-machine gun option may be listed as available standard accessories

I have a MV7 also and wanted to know if you or anyone else notice a clicking or clunking noise coming from the rear end? It does not matter if the over-ride button is pushed or not going backwards. It makes the noise under load going forward. Is this a normal sound or is something going out? I have not even taken it in for the initial 20 hours service yet, so I have not talked to the dealer about the problem. Any help would be appreciated!

when you say clinking or clunking, is it when you round a corner or first hit the gas and let off the gas? for example. when you let off the gas it sounds like you have rocks in your gearcase tumbleing around?
