intake and exhaust valves
#1
A friend of mine is wanting to put larger valves in his 04 predator 500. I'm going to do the port work for him, but i'm having a hard time finding someone that sales just the valves. can you guys recommend a place to buy the larger valves?

You should be able to go to any quality performance engine builder and show them your current valves and tell them you want a bigger valve. They should have a cross reference book of some sort. You do realize you will need the seat in the head also as they are pressed into the alluminum. There is also an art to porting not just hogging out the port. You can disrupt the flow or reduce the velocity and ruin lower rpm performance. If you have ever driven an all out wide open throttle performance anything , just trying to drive around normally sucks. Wide or nothing may have a fine line. You can guess how I know this to be fact.

Thanks Steve,
I was just hoping there was some one I could just call and say send me +1mm valves for an 04 predator for convenience I also have a machine shop that will be doing the valve job and seat machining. As far as porting, I've been porting 2 & 4 stroke bikes for over 4 years I know exactly what happens when you get carried away. but thank you for your concern and heads up. porting is definetly not for someone with a Tim the tool man approach.

uhh.........first let me say.........4 years is nothing!!!! Next.......the pred motor, especially the head is very particular.
If you just "clean up the ports"......you are ok.........but you take some meat out.........you need to send it away.......other builders have thrown lots of heads away to get the right combo......you can actually loose power you know........
For the valves.....

hold up now I'm not going to get in a pissing match here. trust me I know what I'm doing. I didn't ask for critiszinm about my abilitys in porting young man. I just ask for a supplier to purchase valves from because this is going to be a rush job and I want everything here when the bike comes in. So calm down.
Thanks for the site I'll give them a call.

HA.....ok, think as you wish......I'm sure you have plenty of experience, as you seem to be a leading engine builder on 4 strokes.....I mean, you evidence shows that......and apparently, you know about the predator(which I said is different than others.....that motor takes to different things, trust me!!)........but I'd think if you'd been around the porting on a pred head, you'd know that.......and also you'd know where to get the valves......anyways, have fun....and I hope for the best for you.........
What are you charging????
