I just ordered a Sportsman 700 EFI MO and was told it had to be ordered 48 hours in advance. I have to work over the weekend. So it will be Thursday of next week. Salesman said that they were going out of business "any day now" and they may not be open next Thursday due to the building being sold. So I guess it will be a surprise on Thursday.

Anybody else getting the same information?

I live in Chattanooga and just bought a Hawkeye there. They told me that they were for sale and that they would close by December 31 if they had no buyers.

They make money buy selling lots of bikes, but cheap and they make their money on accessories.

Anyway, according to them, Polaris will not allow dealers to sell bikes below MSRP next year, like I guess Harley does sales now.

That will kill their business, so they are closing or selling.

I think that is ridiculous for Polaris to do that. I think their sales will plummet.

Wow, that will cause a lot of dealers to close. Unless all the others follow suit.

That can't be true. It's a free market economy. It is illegal for that to happen. You have the right to sell anything at any price you want. Harley dealers can sell a bike for 1 dollar if they want. They just stick as close as possible to retail as they can for the obvious reasons.

Seems a couple of years back, Polaris stopped sending atv's to some dealers because of the lack in snowmobile sales they had.

I'm sure they can sell them for whatever they want, but if Polaris ain't happy, they can stop sending them.

I am just telling you what they told me. I have bought two bikes there in the past 2 years and this is the first I have heard of that. I thought it may just be rumor, but since they have told other people than me, there may be something to it.

They had no reason to tell me that as some incentive to buy, as I had already bought the bike.

i heard or read somewhere that they were in trouble because they were filling waranty claims on bikes they never worked on and polaris caught them in the act.. as far as selling for retail that would be a tough call i know john deere makes us dealers sell some of its products at retail and you cant lower that price.

Polaris can not control a dealership's pricing. That's all that there is to it. The dealers buy the units from polaris just like we do from the dealers. Once the dealer has the units in there store, they are there to stay(unless the bank that has the floorplan comes to repocess) A very good source told me they were not ordering 07 models(was told this spring unless it has changed). I don't know why they are closing the doors. We can speculate all we want. ) 9 times out of 10 the reason is simply money. Come on now, look at the prices. Right now they are selling 500 H.O.'s for $4900, 450's for $4500, X2's for 5900. For those of you who have never seen a dealer invoice on machines I can tell you they are way more than that. I'm not sure on the exact price of a 500 carb now but it's most likely in the 55-5600 dollar range. They also get a hold back from polaris that goes to there credit line, not a check. So with the 06 rebates they have now they may have a dead cost of say 5000. For 3-4 months they have to sit on the hold back. So they are in the hole on that unit say $300 bucks. Multiply that by say i don't know, 5 a day? Not to mention all of the people who buy nothing to go with it. I bet they sold themselves into a hole that they can't see crawling out of.(I'm just guessing, I don't know) I'm sure however that Polaris doesn't mind and I don't blame them. The value over the SE has fell alot in used machines. I mean who would buy an 05 500 h.o used for 5500 bucks from a guy who paid 7000 for it less than a year ago when they can get a new one for that? Well, that's how I see it.
