How are the Sportsmans doin?
this is my second sprortsman, love them both. the battery has never failed me yet on the 700, and up here it gets pretty cold in the winter, i ride them all year round for work. they are heavy, but ride like you are sitting on the couch. very little maintenance on them, just the regular fluid changes, i have 2000 km on the 700 now and still going strong.

How are the Sportsmans doin?
My wife just got a 2006 Sp500 EFI and it DOES have a recoil starter (much to my surprise). My 2004 Sp700 carb does not. Perhaps it's the single cylinder vs. twin cylinder difference.
In any case, my wife's 500 EFI has gobs of power. If your Dad is really that hung up on having a recoil starter, he could have that and save lots of money by getting the 500 EFI instead of the 800. Unless he's planning to tow a full-capacity trailer (1500 pounds with 150 tongue weight) he'll likely never notice the difference.

never notice the difference?!!!!!!! Have you ridden the 800? Its MAD! Ive had a 500, now a 700 and even that is a MASSIVE difference and the 800 is more The 500 is ok, but I bought mine and traded up to the 700 in 2 months due to lack of power on the 500 as it struggled to do some things I wanted it to where the 700 performs flawlessly. On the recoil note, Ive never had any battery problems on any of my polaris. I did of course kill my starter on the 700 recently which left me to be towed home and a trip to the shop. So the recoil is definitely a plus to have and I wish they would put one on. I do carry booster cables to be safe which will get you going if you have battery problems but if the starter goes, have a towe rope. Im told the starter is rare and im just unlucky, but something to note.... I know many with the SP800 and none have had any issues where the recoil would of been required. I say go for it, get that 800. All about the power

stendori- those 27's look nice-- any clearance issues with the tires, did you add any lift or wheel spacers? I run a 05 700 with stock 26's but really like those itp radials---back to the thread- love my polaris, no real problems with it, goes through mud while my buddies get stuck, its big but so am I and it drives like a caddy. My only issue is all the axle chatter(dealer says is normal)
