I have a 99 polaris scrambler 5004x4 ho. If i leave it sittin for about a week or two without startin it - it will not start. The only way i can get it started is to spray starter fluid in the carb. then its still a pain in the butt to get started. sometimes it back fires... after i get it runnin it runs fine other then when i turn it off it leaks gas out the bowl on the carb - what could this be? please any one with info please share
thanks alot- in advance
I just cleaned the carb out and went to put it back on and its still leakin gas out the bowl... what could this be???

Usually when a carb leaks gasoline just sitting there, the cause is a stuck float or float valve. If the float doesn't rise as the bowl fills with gasoline, it can't depress the valve that shuts off the flow of gas. Does your bike have a vaccum actuated fuel petcock? If it does and its operating properly, fuel shouldn't flow unless the engine is running. You might try turning the fuel petcock to the OFF position when you turn the bike off and see if it still leaks gas.
Good luck.

If it leaks gas out of the carb the needle and seat are bad in the carb, turn the gas off with the shut offnvalve every time you park it. As for not starting, is the oil in the crankcase full of gas from the carb leaking? Smell the dipstick and see if it smells like gas, if so change the oil and filter and fix the carb. See if the air cleaner is wet with gas too.
