Carburator issues burning oil
#1
I got a 2000 scrambler 400cc 2x4 that is oil injected. When I got it I was told that it was set up to run rich for racing and I cant figuare out how to make it so it does not run that way. When it is running it is putting out so much smoke that I could use it to get rid of the Bee's that are in the neighbor hood. Also it does not idel well at all. Some times it will idel other times I have to hold the gas in to keep it running. I am running a stage hotter plug because it was just fouling out the other plugs. There was so much oil in the gas that it was actually coming out of the exahuast pipe. I took off the cover on the oil injector pump to see if the 2 marks line up and they do so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I am not a 2 stroke guru, but here are a few thoughts. Maybe the throttle cable is misadjusted allowing too much oil for the RPM that the engine is turning. Or, maybe the oil pump is not returning all the way and dumping too much oil at lower rpm's. Sometimes those springs get rusty and break. As for the idle, I would try to get the oil situation resolved first, this could be the rough idle problem. Hope this helps! If not, hey, atleast I bumped it back up top for you!

Take the top off of the carb and lower the needle one notch and try ityou mightb even go two. There is a little clip on the main needle, you would raise the clip which would lower the needleinto the main jet making it leaner, If this doesnt work , go one size smaller on the main jet.

if its using too much oil it will have a effect on how its idling as its tring to burn the oil. if you have it coming out of the exhaust then you have way too much. i also would find out what its running for jets and if there is any internal engine mods. if there is maybe thats why it has bigger jets if not put it back to stock.
