I bought a sportsman last winter and my warranty is soon up. I have only put on about 6 hours (too busy) but would like to know if there any common problems with this bike that could be fixed under warranty. I would appreciate all input because I will soon be able to start riding more and don't want to find out all the problems after warranty is up. wondering If there are any common tsb's or anything. Thanks guys. Love the site. So

I have read about possible heat problems and melting some of the plastic but I've never ridden enough to get the engine temp up. Also do you guys recommend doing an oil change at the recommended 100 hours or should i just go ahead and do it around 6-7 hours. sorry for all of the ?'s. I'm new to the fourwheeler thing.

I've got about 600 miles/60 hours on my 05 700EFI. The only problem I had was a leaking water pump which was fixed under warranty. I have seen others with water pump problems but I wouldn't say it is common. Never had any issues with the plastic, it does get hot but no melting.
As far as oil changes, I did my first at about 7 hours, then every Spring and Fall. So in all I have done 4 oil changes in 60 hours. I figure it's only $15 and 15 minutes of my time, better safe than sorry. Also, I change all my fluids every Spring (did that on my previous ATV's also). Again, a couple hours for this and $50, preventive maintenance.

Wiggy,
I have the same quad as you. I have had mine in the shop 4 times within the first 4 months and less than 150 miles. Belt housing case leaking twice. Both front inside cv boots ripped off at the same time riding through water. A sensor disconnected, and cracked plastic under the seat were it mounts to the frame. Everything has been covered under warranty. I still bought the extended. I know I will use it. I really recommend getting Stick Stoppers. CV boots are a real headache.
