Default Help with Fluids

Can anyone tell me what color the front diff and rear tranny/diff fluid should be? I had my machine in water up over the racks about 3 inches down from the intake snorkel. Now it has me nervous if water got into places it shouldn't have. I removed the rear diff/tranny check plug and it started running out, it seemed to be a greyish color. Is this what color the diff fluid is suppose to be or did I get water in it? One other curious question where do the tranny/diff and front diff vents go? Are they they lines under the hood that come up and then go back down? If that is the case the opening of the tubes were most likely under water but the water level would have never got over the top of the bend.

front should be a brownish and trans a blueish color, if you use the AGL fluid.

niether should be milky like with water mixed in.

the vents most likely go up the steering stem into the pod area or gas tank.

Just change the oil. It's not that expensive for the protection of parts even if you didn't get water in the oil (but sounds like you did).

Default Help with Fluids

Just changed the front diff oil and rear gear case oil. The engine oil seems fine, not over full and is the same colour all the way through. One other question I had was on the way back from the hole the belt was sqeaking I just figured it was wet. But now after starting it and driving it for a very short trip just back and forth on my two car driveway it is still sqeaking. Not only that the belt seems to be slipping in high. I have never noticed it before but should you be able to rev it up in high holding the break and not move any where? In low it over-rides the break no problem and drives forawd. But in high you can actually rev it up quite a bit before it lurches foward. Just looking for some advise. Thanks in advance.

You probably got water in the belt cover, ther is a red plug on the bottom, Now you have probably damaged your belt, dont hold the brakes and gas it this causes belt slipping and is not good on the belt or clutches.

All fluids in your atv are ligher than water. So when you pull the plug, if the first thing you see is water some got in. It would be wise to change the fluids. If you can't right away, atleast get the water out. For water in the belt housing, pull the red plug and let it idle in park. After a minute or two it should be dry. I have drowned mine a couple of times and its gotten routine.

The clutch cover was drained right away. It was sqeaking for the 10 minute drive back, only seemed to squeak at around 30-40 mph. I never held the gas with the brake on for more then 2 seconds. I'll bring it out tomorrow and drive it up and down the road see if it goes away. I will probably have to put a belt on it. I thought they would be able to hold up to atleast one drowning but I geuss I was wrong. I had the cover off yesterday too and the belt seemed like it was brand new and the clutch had no scores or anything wrong with it either.

I've filled up my clutch housing atleast 10 times and accidentally launched it in a lake upside down and haven't had to replace a belt yet. You shouldn't have to replace it for one time.

Thanks for mentioning that. That actually makes me feel quite a bit better.
