How much difference is there *really* between the power output of the 400 vs 450, and which is the more reliable machine?

I have never driven the SP450,but the people on here that have them say they are much quicker than the 400. The 450 is very close to the 500 in terms of acceleration, and since the 400 was much slower than the SP 500 I hope this answers your question. In terms of reliability, it is hard to say which one is more reliable.

I hear the SP450 performs like a SP 500 NON HO,s . I ride my dads 97 sp 500 (Smaller carb and lower duration cam than a H.O) sometimes and it will beat any sp 400.

Thanks for the Input. I was thinking of trying to acquire one or the other for trail blazing. Got a friend who owns a piece of ground that's hills and trees, and no trails to speak of. Followed him in on the Predator and almost got into a bind due to the low ground clearance and lack of reverse.

the 06' sportsman is a 455 cc engine thats been around for a while. its almost as fast and power wise then my 01 500 i had. the 400 was like the 335 a little under powered for the weight. ive had no problems as of yet w/ my wifes 450 w/ 350 miles on it. the only thing i would add would be the ebs braking.

I have over 800 miles on our 450's and no problems yet....I very happy with the ride and power. The dealer told me that if you didn't have or use E.B.S before ...than you will not miss it...........Great quad for the price.........I am STILL glad I got the second 450 for the wife instead of the Hawkeye she wanted..............caper...........

I don't have any experience with the 400, but I have not had one problem with my 06 450 Sp. I have just over 50 hrs and about 500 miles on it. After hearing folks talk about speed on this board, I had the occasion to hold mine open for a little while and it hit 50 mph and was still gaining rapidly when I had to back off. BTW it is a carb model.
