98 xpress 300 idleing after rebuild
#1
I have just performed a top end rebuild on my xpress 300 and now I can not get it to idle. I have taken the carb apart and cleaned it and washed out all the varnish and sprayed all the jets and seats and such and it still wont idle. I checked the fuel air adjustment and its ok at 1.5 turns out from seated and the idle adjustment screww is all the way in which should be a really high idle but it is not. If I hold on the throttle a little it will run fine but not on its own any ideas.

when you say varnish, was it full of it when you cleaned it out? did you make sure to clean the idle cicuit out as well.if you have the idle screw in all the way then it would take off across the lawn if it was right. is the needle set in the right location. does it bog, run out of gas or what when it dies?

well I found the prblem today it seems when I reattached the choke cable I moved its position. After I adjusted it the idle came way up and I had to back off the idle speed screw alot. I would not have thought this would have fixed it but I guess it was being choked all the time. This will be one to remember for anyones further idling problems they may just have a choke cable out of adjust ment.
