Default Need some advice on quads

I curently have a 2004.5 polaris 700 and i like it but was thinking about selling it and getting a new big bore utility. I am really leaning towards the King Quad. I am just wondering if the difference will be worth the hassle. The things i like about the KQ is that it is lighter and more nimble. The Polaris is great in the rocks and i love the ground clearence but hate the extra weight. Does anyone have any experence with both of these machines? Any advice, or other options on this topic would be great thanks.

Everyone new to Polaris always says things about the weight. But when you compare parts like the size of axles,CV joints and suspension parts along with good tires stock you can see where the weight is.

I have been riding Polaris quads since '93 and Kawasaki quads since '01. I had the 500 Sportsman and loved the ride and lots of its abilities, but the 650/700 Kaw Prairie for a sport quad is the way to go. I still have the Polaris's listed below and getting ready to buy another Prairie, this time the 700. I have friends in ND that ride Polaris 500/600 and have rack up 40,000 miles between the two and love them. They ride open range looking for cattle. The Polaris ride better, but at the end of the day racing around Glamis CA in the sand the Prairie came out on top every time. Once in Wyanoka OK at the dunes a 700 twin Polaris with a 300+lb guy out jumped everyone that was dune jumping in a group of 30 quads. Yes out jumped 400 ex, 450R, Z400, YZF400, 500 Pred's, all of them and everyone couldn't believe their eye's, he called all the jumpers Panzies and showed they how to jump.
I love Polaris and Kawasaki............I am buying another V-Twin Prairie, last one have just over 4,000 miles, hard miles, and never left me stranded.

that is my story and I am sticking to it................................handycap

I personally like a beefy quad, hence I have a utility. Like already mentioned, with stronger axles, frame, and better tires comes weight. Polaris axles are almost as big as Gorilla's, if not the same size. You go putting Gorilla's and a simular quality tire on any other stock quad, you are now starting to add the weight. Think about it. It is not a sport quad, how fast are you really gonna go? Are you really gonna be slowed down so much by adding about 100 lbs? This weight thing really bothered me too when I took on the MV. Quad+Me=about 1,350 lbs. Whenever I pull wheelies, suddenly I forget about the weight. Funny how that happens!

I am not trying to persuade you in either direction. If you like a product, as you say you do, stick with it. You know it works for you! If you think that you are missing something, maybe you should move on to something with a different flavor! Ask yourself, what is it that I want to do, that I can't do now? If you do come up with something, buy the quad that can do what you want! Good Luck with your decision, I know they are hard to make sometimes!

i know as far nimble goes that i can throw my 800 around more then my budds bf750 in the trails. the ires and the supenion has alot to do w/ how really nimble a bike feels. the only other veiw i might add is the awd vs. the 3 wd w/out the use of the locker front end. i myself prefer to just push 1 button as to hold a lever in. my buddys 750 is the same way so he had to odder a 50.00 locking pin so he doesnt have to worry about holdiong his lever in to lock all the wheels.

hey guys thanks for the help. I was convinced last night i was getting a KQ but you have made some really good points. My 04 has ben ridden hard and keeps going. Like it was said above the extra weight means bigger and stronger. Now i am thinking new Sp800. Do all that have experence with 800 like them? What are some of the flaws that you guys see? thanks for the help in advance justwant to make the right decision.

Well i have the same ATV as you do, the '04.5 700 just not EFI and i love it to death. Its been great to me and i couldnt ask for more. Really... BUT i've been in the market for another ATV for a long time now, and the SP800 is at the top of my list, by far. Im going to be trading my 700 in on it btw.. But anyway, the Polaris lineup changed completely after '04.. I kindof wish i would've waited a year for all the improvements. SO MANY IMPROVEMENTS. But anyway, the 800 has so much power, TONS of storage, best towing capacity, 3rd year in the making, Lock'N'Ride system (what we dont have), Dual Exhaust, Rear tail lights with Rear work lights, better/wider suspension, awesome stock tires and rims, and the new Polaris' just look alot better too.. Also, if you get an '07 800 you now can get Active Descent Control (ADC), so no more 2wheel drive downhill engine breaking! .. So yeah, this is where i stand. Im still looking at the KQ700 and other ATV's as well and i promise myself to test drive them each, but i think the '07 SP800 will prevail .. hope i helped.

well if you guys are going to get the 800 wait until mid 07 they might have a increased cc 800 coming out. i love my 800 and plan on keeping it unless they actually do come out w/ the increase then i'll trade i think. the only down fall of the 800 (most likely your 700 is the same) it has a small gas tank and doesnt have very good gas milage. of course my hevay thumb dont help any.

JonJonG i know what you mean about loving your machine. If i could of only waited a few months and got the new style sp i wouldnt be havin this conversation. Do you really think that there will be a bigger bader 800 for 07? Also how much of a power difference is there between an 700 and 800? Is the new braking system alot better, because now it is quite a ride down steep hills and is very noisy.
